Free AEO Audit Tool: Check 16 Onsite Signals

Canonry scores one public page across 16 factors tied to AI readability and entity clarity. You also see what one live Gemini model can infer from that page. This is not a multi-engine visibility test.

The AI step sends up to 6,000 characters of public page text and structured data to Google Cloud Vertex AI. Derived results may be cached for 24 hours; Canonry does not cache the full page content. Read the privacy policy.

How It Works

Four steps from URL to actionable results.

The free audit crawls your site, scores 16 public factors, and queries one live Gemini model so you can inspect the technical evidence alongside that model's reading of your page.

  1. Enter your URL

Paste any page URL. We analyze that single page only, not your whole site. This lets you check your homepage, a key landing page, or any page you want AI to understand.

  2. We crawl and analyze 16 factors

Our engine checks structured data, schema validity, entity clarity, content depth, trust signals, snippet eligibility, technical SEO, and 9 other public factors on that page that affect how AI understands it.

  3. One live Gemini model reads your site

We send your page content to one live Gemini model and ask it to extract the key phrases it can infer about your business, services, location, and credibility.

  4. You get a score, evidence, and fixes

The results show a 0 to 100 score, a signal-by-signal breakdown, the exact phrases AI extracted from your page, and the top 3 actions ranked by impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the AEO audit

What does the free AEO audit check?

The audit scans one URL and scores it across 16 public on-site factors, including structured data, schema validity, AI access files, entity consistency, content depth, citations, freshness, FAQ content, snippet eligibility, technical SEO, and crawler access. It also sends the page to one live Gemini model and shows the phrases that model can infer from the page.

How long does the audit take?

Around 5 to 15 seconds for most pages. We crawl the URL, run all 16 factor analyzers, and ask an AI model to extract what it can infer from the content. You get a 0 to 100 score, a signal-by-signal evidence breakdown, the exact phrases AI extracted from your page, and the top 3 fixes ranked by impact.

Is the AEO audit really free?

Yes. The page-level audit is free within fair-use rate limits of 10 runs per hour per IP. The optional Full AI Visibility Report and execution work are paid services, but the page check itself stays free.

Can I audit any website?

Yes, any public URL with HTML content works. The audit covers a single page at a time, so you can run it on your homepage, a key landing page, or any specific URL you want AI engines to understand. You do not need to be the site owner to run it, which also makes the tool useful for benchmarking competitors.

How does the AEO audit differ from a traditional SEO audit?

A traditional SEO audit grades how a page ranks in Google search results, focusing on signals like backlinks, keyword targeting, and Core Web Vitals. The Canonry AEO audit grades how easily AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity can read, trust, and cite the page. It looks at structured data depth, entity consistency, AI-readable files (llms.txt and llms-full.txt), definition-style content blocks, FAQ and HowTo schema, and AI crawler access in robots.txt. The two audits overlap on technical SEO basics but diverge on what counts as a citation-worthy signal.

Which AI engines does the audit cover?

The 16-factor score measures on-site signals rather than testing each answer engine. The live extraction runs once with a Gemini model. If the preferred Gemini variant is unavailable, the service tries another Gemini variant; it does not query ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Copilot. Treat the extracted phrases as one model's reading of the page, not a multi-engine visibility result.

What page data is sent to the AI model?

For the optional inference step, Canonry sends up to 6,000 characters of publicly available visible page text and JSON-LD structured data to a Gemini model hosted through Google Cloud Vertex AI in the United States. Canonry may cache the domain and derived result for up to 24 hours, but it does not cache the full page content.

Will the audit fix my AEO score automatically?

No. The free AEO audit tool diagnoses the page and shows you exactly which of the 16 factors are failing, but it does not edit your site. After you review the evidence and the top 3 fixes, you can either implement the recommendations yourself, share the report with your developer, or request the Canonry Full AI Visibility Report and Canonry Managed execution across markup, content, and AI-readable files.

How often should I run the AEO audit?

For most sites, monthly is enough to catch regressions from content updates, schema changes, or new framework releases. Canonry re-audits client sites after every meaningful content or schema change because answer engines re-crawl and re-rank citations frequently. If you publish blog posts or change service descriptions weekly, run the audit on the changed page within a day or two of the change to confirm structured data and entity signals stayed consistent.
